After about a week of very hot weather, the rain has returned. I am not sure how I feel about this yet. It seems we have had about 2 weeks of "summer" and now the rain....again. I have to admit, after such hot days, the coolness of today was welcome, but it also saddens me. School will be starting soon and I feel like the days of summer as I knew them are no more. It's true that I grew up in the warm California sun and this needs to be taken into consideration, but still. I want the girls to have that same summertime feeling, the comfort of knowing that tomorrow will be just as beautiful as today. It's something that I obviously took for granted. Ahh, well....what can you do?
On to some adventures I suppose! Last week, on one of said hot days, the girls and I went exploring! I have decided that we are going to explore this city around us and I am proud to say we have seen more of it this year than ever before. We took a drive over to West Seattle and found the very beautiful Lincoln Park.
Wow, was it amazing. This is the Seattle you see in the movies, the place that is absolutely gorgeous. We found the park fairly easily, aside from really crappy mapquest directions, and started out on our trek. Happy meals in hand (they got hungry, what can I say?!) we started out on one of the trails. Never having been here before, it is the blind leading the blind, and my very hungry and antsy children begin the whine-a-thon. "Mommy, I'm tired, my legs are tired, can you carry me?" "mommy, I'm hungry, are we almost there?" "when are we going to stop, I want to eat my happy meal" and on and on and on. Keep in mind we have walked for a total of ummm...maybe 2 minutes. At this point I realize this is going to be a longer hike than anticipated, but we trek on, down a very green and steep path. Through the trees I see this

and decide that whatever I have to deal with on the way down will be well worth it! We make it to the bottom and the view is stunning. Under a shady tree, we set out our picnic blanket and the eat. After lunch, we walk down to the water and the rock collecting commences. The water is freezing cold, but it doesn't seem to faze them. The afternoon is spent splashing, collecting, and taking in the beauty around us.
I really can't wait to visit this park again. It was an awesome afternoon, set against a backdrop of sparkling blue water and tree covered islands.
